As the name suggests, its speciality was not Verne, or Fiction, but mountains and mountaineering etc.

At the moment, I do not remember if I knew about the store before travelling to Europe, or if I came across it in my wandering! (I think I must have known about it)
BUT, my first visit occurred in the summer of 1978, and it was at this store that I joined the Société Jules Verne, and purchased the Bottin bibligraphy.

Last night, March 27, 2010 I was watching the movie Julie and Julia. Much to my surprise, and great joy, what did I notice? As Julia Child and her husband are arriving in Paris, in their quite large American car, I saw the Librairie des Alpes! I was ecstatic... what great memories it brought back of my visits to Paris and that particular spot, even the park across the road (with the benches shaped like open books!)
