Moldavian

The following information is from the expert I consulted:

The situation with the Moldavian Language is not so clear - in the accepted tree of languages they don't have it. When Moldavia became territory of the USSR in 1940 (must have been pre-war politics) it was, in fact, part of Romania but mostly Russian speaking. In Rusian sources they place Moldavian as a separate language different from Romanian, as I understood, lexically, no difference in grammar or phonetics. Moldavia was annexed to Russia after Turkish-Russian war in 1812. There is also contradiction in when and how they used Latin and Cyrillic alphabets: from what I read it follows that they tried to switch from Cyrillic to Latin in 1931, but what was prior to it is not clear. After the disintegration of the Soviet Union Moldavia became an independent state, but there is an internal conflict between western and eastern territories which prefer either Romania or Russia not really
respectfully.

So, the book you have is 'Captain of 15', printed in 1982 in Chisinau (Latin) or
Kishinev (transliteration from Cyrillic).
It is capital of Moldavia.
It is second edition after 1957 printed in Moscow.
Alphabet: Cyrillic
Translator: Damian L. (What I don't understand is that it is a translation from Russian, not French!).
